Wire Ave Multigenerational

Silver spring, Maryland

After nearly 40 years in their home, these longtime homeowners were ready to reimagine their spaces for a new chapter of life centered around family gatherings and time with their grandchildren. The goal was to maintain the openness of the existing floor plan while creating a warm, comfortable, and inviting home designed for multigenerational living.

Inspired by the colors and movement of the family’s beloved landscape painting, we developed a palette of calming organic tones layered with thoughtful moments of color and personality. Natural fibers, eco-conscious materials, PFAS-free fabrics, and handcrafted finishes bring warmth, texture, and character throughout the home. Handmade tile selections add craftsmanship and character to the hallway and powder room, while the powder room itself embraces a bold and playful design within its existing small footprint.

In the great room, we incorporated dedicated space for grandchildren to play alongside a comfortable sitting area that encourages gathering while maintaining clear sight lines throughout the space. We designed a custom-build desk that serves as a functional workspace, offers closed and open storage, and an impactful focal point from the adjoining kitchen. Architectural updates included enlarging and cladding the existing beams in wood and replacing dated ceramic tile flooring with hardwoods that add warmth, richness, and continuity throughout the main living spaces.

The result is a home that feels fresh yet familiar—thoughtfully updated to support the way this family lives, gathers, and creates memories together today.
